Premier visits ‘Best in World’ Blacktown Hospital
“We are delivering first-class health care and thousands of new jobs for Western Sydney,” Ms Berejiklian said.
“This is a major expansion of existing services and delivery of new services to meet increasing demand and reduce the need to travel out of the area for treatment.”
The new Stage 2 acute services building will include:
- Emergency, including psychiatric emergency care
- Intensive care
- Operating theatres
- Birthing, maternity, women’s health and newborn care
- New paediatric ward and outpatients.
The clinical services building design was voted ‘Best in World’ at the International Academy for Design & Health Academy Awards in Vienna last month.
The project has now received 13 major international, national and local awards, with the most recent announcement netting NSW Health Infrastructure, project architects Jacobs and arts consultants HARC three prestigious awards for:
- Best international hospital project (under 40,000 square metres)
- Best use of art in public and private spaces
- Best interior design.
“Blacktown Hospital’s new clinical services building reflects the needs of patients and staff because it was designed with them front of mind,” Ms Berejiklian said.
The new building is due to be completed in 2019. The car park is due for completion later this year. Stage 1 of the project, completed last year, delivered a new hospital building, cancer centre, mental health unit, extensive internal refurbishment, infrastructure upgrades and more parking.
