Premier's Teacher Scholarships put a world of expertise within reach

Premier Gladys Berejiklian has congratulated 20 of the State’s best teachers, whose commitment to quality education has been recognised with a 2019 Premier’s Teacher Scholarship.

The scholarships are open to all NSW teachers from government and non-government schools and preschools, as well as TAFE NSW Institutes and provide recipients with $10,000 to $15,000 for a five-week study tour.

Twenty scholarships, with a total value of $260,000, have been awarded for 2019.

“This scholarship program will help make our best and brightest teachers in the State even better,” Ms Berejiklian said.

“It will help teachers prepare their students for their futures in a time of rapid social, economic and technological change.”

Education Minister Rob Stokes said the scholarship recipients would gain confidence and motivation to apply new ideas, new teaching methods and new technologies to their professional practice.

“These scholarships are a wonderful chance for exemplary educators to get the opportunity to further pursue their fields of knowledge. I encourage more teachers to put themselves forward for study opportunities next year,” he said.

The teachers will investigate subjects like the role of virtual reality in education, innovative technologies in languages, the impact of hearing loss on school-aged children, entrepreneurship and financial literacy.

“When you return from your study tours I am sure that the students you teach will benefit from the knowledge you have gained and this will enrich and enhance their learning experiences in the classroom,” Mr Stokes said.
