Restored Hydro Majestic Hotel to become a major drawcard for visitors to regional NSW

NSW Premier Mike Baird today announced the restoration of the Hydro Majestic Hotel at Medlow Bath in the Blue Mountains had been completed and would reopen to the public tomorrow, Friday 31 October.

Mr Baird and Member for Blue Mountains Roza Sage toured the newly-refurbished hotel, which closed its doors to undergo a major refurbishment in early 2013.

Mr Baird said the reopening of the iconic hotel would attract local and international visitors and would provide a welcome boost to Blue Mountains tourism and the local community.

“The Hydro Majestic is one of the world’s most beautiful hotels in one of the world’s most breathtaking locations, perched above the world-heritage listed Blue Mountains,” he said.

“It’s particularly special to be announcing this magnificent hotel will be reopening 12 months after devastating bushfires caused heartbreak across the Mountains.

“The NSW Government is proud to have been able to support the restoration project with a $100,000 grant, which was used to develop a theatre-style room that will showcase films about the Blue Mountains region and the history of this beautiful property.

“It has all the trimmings expected of a luxury hotel and boasts a spa with world-class treatment rooms and suites boasting priceless views over the Megalong Valley.

“The Blue Mountains is already a popular tourist destination and the reopening of the Hydro Majestic will provide a welcome boost to the community and local businesses.”

Mrs Sage said the Hydro Majestic had been drawing visitors to the region since it opened in 1904, and residents across the Mountains are eagerly anticipating its reopening.

“The Hydro Majestic contains so much history and character and I’m pleased the NSW Government has been able to support this grand restoration project,” Mrs Sage said.

“I would like to commend the hotel for supporting the local community by offering a “Taste of the Blue Mountains” experience highlighting local food and wine.

“Residents and businesses across the Blue Mountains, many that were affected by last year’s bushfires, will receive a welcome boost once the Hydro Majestic reopens.”
