Nineteen refugee graduates from countries including Ukraine, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and Lebanon will now have the opportunity to spend up to 12 months in a frontline Service NSW Centre or Contact Centre role as part of the paid internship.
With backgrounds including accounting and architecture, participants will also be supported by Service NSW to have their existing skills and qualifications recognised in Australia.
Service NSW ensures interns receive support and training, including education in Service NSW systems and procedures relevant to their frontline role as well as pairing them with a team member who can provide mentoring and support.
A total of 122 refugees have completed an internship since the program started, with a number going into ongoing positions at Service NSW and in the NSW public service.
Minister for Customer Service and Digital Government Jihad Dib said:
"NSW is one of the most successful multicultural societies in the world and the NSW Government is proud to support our refugees as they pursue new careers and a new life in our state.
“The Service NSW internship program gives refugees an opportunity to build a new life here in NSW through paid employment, training and mentoring.
“Our 2024 graduates bring with them a range of skills and qualifications including architecture, teaching, software engineering and economics, and they will be supported by Service NSW to have their existing skills and qualifications recognised here in Australia.”
