Statement on Malcolm Fraser
NSW Premier Mike Baird has paid tribute to former Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser, who died peacefully this morning at the age of 84.
“On behalf of the NSW Government and the people of NSW I offer my deepest sympathies and sincere condolences to the family of Malcolm Fraser,” Mr Baird said.
“Malcolm had an extraordinary life and his contribution to this country was enormous.
“He had a long and distinguished career in the Liberal Party, including serving as Prime Minister from 1975 until 1983.
“After leaving office Malcolm used his public profile to raise concerns about humanitarian issues.
“Malcolm was a giant of Australian public life and I am deeply saddened by his passing.
“My thoughts and prayers are today with his wife Tamie and his four children.
“Flags on all NSW Government buildings will be lowered to half-mast today as a mark of respect for Mr Fraser.”
