Transforming Maitland: new Maitland hospital
NSW Premier Mike Baird and Member for Maitland Robyn Parker today visited the site for the new Maitland Hospital, which will service the health needs of the rapidly growing Maitland community for many generations to come.
“It is fantastic to be in Maitland today and to stand on the site where a new state-of-the-art hospital is planned to be built,” said Mr Baird during a visit to the Maitland electorate.
“Maitland has the highest existing and projected growth and population densities in the Hunter region, which is why the delivery of this new hospital is crucial.
“The site here at Metford is six times larger than the current hospital site and it is close to existing transport and road infrastructure – great news for patients and medical staff.
“Before 2011 we promised to allocate $20 million towards site acquisition and planning for the new Maitland Hospital – we are delivering on that commitment.
“Master planning for the new hospital is progressing as scheduled, with a Business Case to be submitted to the Government later this year.
“Robyn Parker has been an outstanding and vocal advocate for this project, and it is thanks to her dedication and persistence that this hospital will be delivered.”
Ms Parker said she was very keen to show the Premier the site for the new hospital.
“The NSW Government is ensuring Maitland has a world-class public hospital that will serve the local community for many generations,” Ms Parker said.
“The site here at Metford is ideal for a hospital. There is space to accommodate an ambulance station, a helipad, as well as plenty of room for on-site parking.
