Western Sydney to host Community Cabinet
NSW Premier Mike Baird today announced the NSW Government will host the next Community Cabinet in Western Sydney on Monday 2 June 2014.
Mr Baird said he had accepted an invitation from Member for Parramatta Geoff Lee, Member for Baulkham Hills David Elliott, Member for Granville Tony Issa and Member for Smithfield Andrew Rohan, to host NSW Cabinet in Parramatta.
“Community Cabinet provides an important vehicle for us to hear people’s concerns first hand, before we can get to work to address them,” Mr Baird said.
“We are already delivering for the region. We have started work on WestConnex and the roll out of Opal electronic ticketing on trains in Western Sydney is complete.
“Planning has begun on the first stage of a major redevelopment of Westmead Hospital, and last year we opened the $5 million upgraded Westmead emergency department.
“As part of the NSW Government’s ‘decade of decentralisation’ policy we have announced plans to relocate and consolidate more than 3,000 public servants to new offices in Western Sydney from 2015 to boost the region’s economy and support local jobs.
“Residents can thank the efforts of Mr Lee, Mr Elliott, Mr Issa and Mr Rohan who advocated for Community Cabinet to be held in Western Sydney,” Mr Baird said.
Mr Lee said it was appropriate Community Cabinet would be held in Parramatta – the heart of Western Sydney.
“Western Sydney is one of the country’s fastest growing economies and it’s important the region has the homes, infrastructure, services and jobs needed to cater for the growing number of families who will call this region home in the future.”
Mr Elliott said he was delighted the Premier had accepted an invitation to host the forum in Western Sydney to hear from locals first hand.
Mr Issa said: “The public forum gives people a golden opportunity to ask questions directly to Government Ministers about issues important to them.”
Mr Rohan said: “I would encourage everyone to attend Community Cabinet to ensure the NSW Government is kept informed about issues that matter to Western Sydney.”
Community Cabinet will be held on Monday 2 June 2014 between 6:30pm and 8pm at Parramatta RSL Club, corner Macquarie and O’Connell Streets, Parramatta.
