More than 400 homes possible across latest land audit sites
The Minns Labor Government is delivering more homes. The land audit has identified more than 400 new homes which could be delivered across four surplus and underutilised NSW Government-owned sites as part of the NSW Government’s Building Homes for NSW program to deliver 30,000 homes across the state.
All sites within this latest tranche were assessed as suitable for housing delivery by the NSW Government’s ongoing land audit, led by Property & Development NSW. To date, the land audit has identified sites capable of deliver more than 11,400 homes across the State.
A well-located site in Tallawong could be developed to provide up to up to 400 new dwellings under the current mixed-use zoning, with ample green open space within the RE1-zoned portions of the site. The land is close to the Tallawong Metro Station and Tallawong Primary School.
Two Government-owned properties at Wahroonga on Sydney’s North Shore could collectively support up to 8 new homes under the current low density residential zoning.
Both Wahroonga sites are suited to the NSW Government’s Housing Pattern Book. The Pattern Book offers high-quality architect designs supported by a 10-day planning approval pathway to make it faster and more affordable to design and build a home. This makes some of the smaller government-owned sites earmarked for private sector divestment even more attractive to developers.
A site at Menangle Park in southwestern Sydney is zoned for large lot residential and could see up to 29 substantial family homes developed with plenty of room for growing families to live close to Macarthur Square shopping centre, train station, and several primary and secondary schools.
All sites identified as part of the land audit are first offered to Homes NSW and Landcom, the NSW Government’s developer.
All land audit housing numbers are indicative only and based on the current zoning of sites.
Minister for Lands and Property Steve Kamper said:
“The Minns Labor Government continues to grow the state’s housing delivery pipeline by streamlining planning approvals and unlocking suitable land in areas of high demand.
“Our Government understands that families across this state need housing they can afford, that is exactly why we are pulling every lever to unlock demand.
“The sites announced today could support more than 400 much-needed homes, with the land audit now surpassing 11,400 homes.
“It doesn’t matter whether you are looking to build your first home or your last home, the property audit continues to identify surplus Government-owned land that is ready to address the housing supply crisis.”
