Longing to spend your lunch hour device-free and served with a slice of serenity? Drop in for City Recital Hall’s long running series of lunchtime concerts, A Little Lunch Music. Each concert is an hour of musical escapism performed by some of Australia’s best artists. Helpmann Award-winning soprano Taryn Fiebig is one of Australia’s most popular and versatile artists. For this concert she will be accompanied by pianist Scott Davie in a program of English-language songs that bring added intimacy to this City Recital Hall performance. She begins with ‘Nine Lives’, a collection of songs by Australian composer, Roger Smalley, featuring poetry selected over many years about one of his great loves: cats. A brace of songs by England’s most renowned 20th century composers, Benjamin Britten, will include his famous ‘The Salley Gardens’. The recital ends with a cycle by America’s leading song writer, Samuel Barber, the poetry of ‘Hermit Songs’ reaching back as far as the 9th century, and recounting the joys and sorrows of solitude. Feel free to bring your lunch into the auditorium. Their Lobby Bar is stocked with a range of light meal options or you can bring your own.
