ADFAS Lecture Sam Bowker speaking on "The Australian Mosque"
Corner Baylis Street and Fitzmaurice Street, Wagga Wagga, NSW, 2650, Australia
29th March 2019
This lecture reviews the history of Australian Mosque design from the 1860s to the present day. From the bare-bones resourcefulness of the Afghan Cameleers to the ambitious contemporary statements of cosmopolitan identity, Australian Mosques have challenged international expectations of "Islamic" architecture. More importantly, mosques are part of the urban landscape and can help to overcome fears about Islam. Supper is included in price to be held after the lecture.
