The Official Sydney Chinese New Year Lantern Festival is the single biggest Chinese community organised event in Australia. Each year more than 200,000 people participate in this key activity of Chinese Year and Spring Festival celebration in Sydney. The Festival is organised by the peak Chinese-Australian business and cultural body, ACETCA (Australia China Economics Trade and Cultural Association) and presented by Nan Hai Culture and Media (Australia) Group Pty Ltd, the nation’s leading Chinese language media and cultural promotion group. The Festival is proudly supported by City of Sydney and Property NSW. All previous festivals have been officially launched by the Prime Minister of Australia, a gala event attended by senior representatives from all sides of federal and state politics as well as the City of Sydney. Top representatives of China’s business and cultural community host this launch event which heralds the lighting of thousands of individual lights across Darling Harbour’s Tumbalong Park. The Chinese New Year Lantern Festival has established itself as one of the premiere events for engagement with both the top levels of the Chinese business community as well as the wider cultural and Chinese speaking community across Sydney.
