Reversal is a photographically-based installation that draws on Rose Macaulay’s 1953 book, Pleasure of Ruins, which articulates a relationship between the disappearance of buildings and the limitations of words used to describe them. Pluta’s exhibition materially translates, fragments and reconfigures Macaulay’s ideas to explore the mutability of things and the impermanence of places.
Izabela Pluta has exhibited widely in Australia and in 2018 was shortlisted for the MAMA Foundation National Photographic Award. In 2019 Pluta will be presenting new work in exhibitions including The National 2019: new Australian art at the Art Gallery of NSW and Resurfaced Geographies at Verge Gallery, Sydney. She is represented by This is No Fantasy, Melbourne and is a lecturer at UNSW Art and Design, Sydney.
