The Presence of Absence is a new exhibition by Sydney-based artist Jason Wing, who strongly identifies with his Chinese and Aboriginal Biripi heritage. This exhibition was developed during his residency at the Glasshouse Regional Gallery in June. Wing has reinterpreted old and new work in response to his recent visit to Port Macquarie. Wing explored the Glasshouse’s heritage, archaeological displays and artefacts collection dating from the 1820s, to investigate the dual history of Port Macquarie and how this intersection resonates. Wing’s exhibition The Presence of Absence explores the intersection of Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people regarding land management In the Port Macquarie and wider regions.
