Charles Perkins was one of the most charismatic and well-known Aboriginal political leaders of the twentieth century. Hear about his life, achievements and impact on Australia from Professor John Maynard, Chair of Aboriginal History at the University of Newcastle.
He was born to Arrernte and Kalkadoon parents in the `old’ Alice Springs telegraph station and became an elite soccer player and the first Aboriginal Australian to graduate from University. His fiery, uncompromising contribution to the Indigenous Rights movement.
This hour-long talk at the Australian Museum is a great alternative lunchtime activity, or an opportunity to take your time and visit the museum before or after the talk.
