Mary Gilmore, poet and writer, grew up in the region in the 1860s and 1870s, and was a pioneer in developing recognition for the Wiradjuri people and culture. Many aspects of her writing capture her childhood memories of the district.
The Mary Gilmore Festival is an annual event comprising of music, food and dancing. With a line-up including Lock, Stock and Bingle, John Spears (poet), Ged and Trudy Hintz, Dale Duncan, Charmaine Pout, Tom and Patsy Routledge, Darcy Gage, Gayle O'Neil and Laura Downing there really is something for everyone.
