Meet a Blacksmith: Resident Artists
Corner of Clarence and Hay Streets, Port Macquarie, NSW, 2444, Australia
9th February 2019 to 24th February 2019
Ever wondered what is in a Blacksmith’s toolbox? Or just want to know more about the craft? Join one of their blacksmith resident artists in the Gallery space, part of the Discovery Fe26 exhibition. Once considered purely a utilitarian trade, modern day blacksmiths have forged an artistic reputation for the unique sculptural forms wrought using ancient forging techniques. In Discovery Fe26, Blacksmith artists from across the Mid North Coast and Australia have been inspired by the anniversary of John Oxley crossing the Hastings River 200 years ago. This exhibition is a reflection on the immediate and ongoing positive and negative ramifications of the first encounters of Europeans and Indigenous inhabitants, expressing those through sculptural works. The Artist Blacksmiths Association of NSW was formed in Wauchope over 24 years ago and now represents blacksmith artists Australia wide. Free event, no bookings required.
