On January 30 Wellington will welcome the Queen’s Baton Relay. The Queen’s Baton carries a message from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II that calls the Commonwealth’s athletes to come together in peaceful and friendly competition. The Relay commenced its epic 388-day journey on March 13, 2017 and will arrive in Australia on Christmas Eve before making its way to Wellington via 17 baton bearers chosen to carry the baton across the Local Government Authority. The Queen’s Baton finishes its journey at the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast. To herald a welcome to the Queen’s Baton, join them in Wellington's award winning Cameron Park from 1pm to 2pm. The Baton will travel through Cameron Park, 1.50pm – 2.00pm. Celebrations include a free sausage sizzle, live entertainment and official welcome ceremony. For information on the route the Baton will take through the Region, head to the website.
