Raffia Hat Weaving Workshop
15 The Avenue
Balmain East NSW 2041
13th July 2019 to 3rd August 2019
10:00am to 3:30pm
In this fun and hands on workshop you will learn how to weave a raffia hat.
You have probably seen them worn in old masters self portraits by Van Gough, Monet as well as the subjects featured in their art works. Traditionally this style of hat was worn in country France.
Prior to the workshop they will colour the raffia using natural dyes. During the class they will talk you through the dying process, and you will spend the morning setting up and weaving before breaking for lunch, and then commence hat making. Weaving a raffia hat is mediative, hence your hat will be a part of your soul, they all take on the makers personality.
