Seven Little Australians

Script and lyrics by John Palmer and Peter Yeldham Music by David Reeves. When it premiered in 1988-89, David Reeve’s Seven Little Australians immediately became Australia’s first major homegrown musical theatre success at the box office. Based on Ethel Turner’s classic tale of the same name and taken to heart by young and old since 1894, it is the story of a few months in the life of the Woolcot family. Laugh, and cry! And the music will stay with you long after you leave the theatre! Captain Woolcot, a widower, has remarried, and his new wife is a young and beautiful girl, not much older than his eldest daughter. She quickly provides a seventh mouth to feed. The Seven will captivate you, and with them (whether on the stage or in the audience) you’ll share the trials and triumphs of this colonial family, as brash, forthright and enchanting as old Sydney Town itself. And it’s as relevant today as it was when it first took the market by storm over one hundred years ago! What will the Captain do to reign in his free-spirited daughter? Such an influence on the other children!
