Delight in a program of Mozart and Respighi. Mozart bequeathed wind players some of their most seductive and expressive music – including delightful concertos for oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon. The Sydney Symphony Orchestra has assembled an excellent line-up for an irresistible quartet-concerto. Despite coming of age in turn-of-the-century Italy, Respighi’s fascination with the antique world inspired his Ancient Airs and Dances, gorgeous tributes to the Italian Renaissance and Baroque. The Symphony No.29 has a magnetic appeal that could only be conjured by Mozart. The vivid theatricality of its first movement draws us to the edge of our seats, and the dazzling finale sparks like a firework. Over almost nine decades, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra has come to be acclaimed as Australia’s leading orchestra. Resident at the Sydney Opera House, the Sydney Symphony is dedicated to performing regularly across New South Wales, presenting a wide array of music – from classical to popular – in collaboration with artists and composers from around the globe.
