Talk: Modern but not Minimalist
Corner Phillip and Bridge Streets, Sydney, NSW, 2000, Australia
12th November 2017
Most are familiar with the white box modernist interiors of the 1950s and 1960s but what about designers that were not working in a minimalist style? Why is it that people seem to remember only the minimalist Modernists? Join them for an engaging panel discussion which explores a range of forgotten designers working in highly ornate and often baroque style and looks at why being ‘modern’ does not have to mean being ‘minimalist’. Speakers include, former MAAS curator and Professor of Interiors Architecture program, Judith O’Callaghan (chair), Rebecca Hawcroft curator of The Moderns: European Designers in Sydney, design historian Catriona Quinn and special guest. All tickets include entry to The Moderns: European Designers in Sydney and Marion Hall Best: Interiors exhibitions now on at Museum of Sydney. Part of the exhibition talk series accompanying The Moderns: European Designers in Sydney and Marion Hall Best: Interiors.
