Touch: a new tactile approach to experiencing art
179 Darling Street, Balmain, NSW, 2041, Australia
20th October 2017 to 28th October 2017
Touch: a new tactile approach to experiencing art opens in Balmain on October 20 at 6.30pm. During the exhibition, Hela invites the viewer to experience a selection of her paintings with mindful touch. Hela's work emanates from moments in life that Touch her and, through a process of simple meditation, these moments are transferred onto the canvas. Hela's works are highly textured, revealing scars and obvious tales, sometimes from an almost brutal process of painting. Working closely with Vision Australia and Blind Citizens NSW, with audio description and Braille gallery cards all visitors can take part in the experience. Touch is about allowing ourselves to Feel. Put on the head phones and listen to the music that inspired the artist. Look, close your eyes and "look" again, but this time using only your hands to touch. Read the words or hear the poetry and open yourself up to a new interpretation, a new angle. Hela will be available to share the stories which inspired her and discuss her artworks. This exhibition is one not to miss. Her previous exhibitions at the Balmain Watch House were a great success, attracting visitors from far and wide selling a large number of paintings.
