Now in its second year, the 2019 Gold Buckle will be hosted on the grounds of Willinga Park, a world-class equestrian centre set on 2000 acres of the NSW South Coast in the seaside town of Bawley Point. It’s been called the best equine facility in the Southern Hemisphere and combines stunning architecture, sculptures, and a native botanical garden, with the latest in equine technology, luxury stables, and extensive facilities for the agistment and training of horses. Campdrafting is a uniquely Australian sport, developed from a recreational activity in rural areas. The sport requires excellent skill and horsemanship, and cleverness to select a cow that will run well, but is not too fast for the horse. Last year 147 riders and 350 horses who came from across Australia to compete. Pete Comiskey rode his mare Paris for the top score across two final rounds of competition. He travelled more than 20 hours from Nebo in Central Queensland. The event promises an enjoyable day for spectators, with excellent food including local produce, shopping, and a pop up bar.
