$1 million to boost emergency response
The funding will flow from the ClubGRANTS scheme and increase local clubs’ ability to support emergency service personnel and residents during natural disasters.
One project that will receive funding is the expansion of a dam in the Blue Mountains for water bombing helicopters.
Member for Blue Mountains Roza Sage said she was thrilled to be returning to the Springwood Country Club to announce $80,000 towards the expansion.
“I am proud of the way the community came together to support one another through the 2013 bushfires and I’m pleased the NSW Government is supporting our clubs so they can be there for us,” Mrs Sage said.
“Whether it was displaced residents taking shelter or firefighting helicopters making use of dam water to protect lives and homes, our Blue Mountains clubs were there when we needed them.”
NSW Rural Fire Service Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons said the dam expansion would improve the capacity and safety for aircraft.
“This important upgrade means our responsiveness in this part of the Blue Mountains will be greatly enhanced which in turn means better protection for residents and our personnel.”
More projects to receive funding will be determined later this year.
