Central Station to receive a facelift

Published 15th September, 2016 in Transport

Major improvements planned for the 110-year-old commuter hub.

Central Station

NSW Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Andrew Constance has announced the start of planning to rejuvenate the station, in order to provide a reliable service to a rapidly increasing population.

“Central is the key gateway to Sydney and we want to unlock its potential,” Mr Constance said.

“I want the station’s revitalisation to be about innovation, to accommodate the changing face of transport and new technology in this city, but in a way that respects and preserves Central’s heritage.”

Work will soon begin on a new light rail stop and Sydney Metro platforms at Central, providing impetus to refresh the entire precinct.

More than 270,000 people use Central Station daily, and that number is expected to reach 450,000 by 2036.

The public is asked to submit ideas to revitalise Central Station and surrounds.
