Constance calls public meeting for bush fire affected residents in the Blue Mountains
The Minister will meet with property owners at Winmalee High School at 7.30pm, Monday 16 December, to discuss the ongoing clean-up operation. There will be information stalls from 6.30pm.
“I want to hear from residents directly – their feelings, experiences and challenges,” Mr Constance said.
“I want to assure residents that the NSW Government will be with them every step of the way.
“This is a massive task with tens of thousands of tonnes of debris having to be cleared. It will take months, not weeks.
“This is a stressful time for residents, especially in the lead up to Christmas, and our key objective is to get this clean-up job done quickly and properly.
Mr Constance said crews are on the ground seven days a week.
“I have been advised that NRMA Insurance has 19 sites operating with a total of 22 properties to have demolition works started this week.
“Since the weekend, they have prepared 56 homes for safe excavation and demolition, comprising disconnection of sewerage, water and electricity services and installation of security fencing.
“Suncorp have advised they have completed their own testing and sampling and six properties will be cleared by the end of the week.
“With Allianz agreeing to terms with the NSW Government, hygienist reports will be issued today before they too can get on with clearing homes.”
