NSW consumers are more confident than anywhere else in the country when it comes to spending.

Consumer confidence in NSW rose in May 2015.

Data from the Westpac - Melbourne Institute Survey of Consumer Sentiment (conducted over the period 11-16 May) shows consumer sentiment in NSW rose by 4.9% in May.

The Westpac-Melbourne Institute consumer sentiment index figures, follow on from the Australian Bureau of Statistics Labour Force data for April 2015, released at the beginning of May. This data showed 9,800 jobs were created in NSW, twice as many compared with other states.

NSW Treasurer Gladys Berejiklian said the consumer sentiment result is impressive.

"This is yet another sign that the NSW economy is in a strong position," Ms Berejiklian said.

The Government’s Rebuilding NSW Plan will also strengthen the economy, with a boost of $20 billion to infrastructure.

Ms Berejiklian said the plans for infrastructure will lead to an even more confident consumer, as it will further support jobs and boost economic growth.
