The program has $89.3 million in total funding available in 2014-15. Eligibility for the latest round of funding was recently broadened to include 11 local government areas (LGAs), including Broken Hill, Cessnock and Maitland.

Resources for Regions funding is available for projects that provide physical and social infrastructure in mining affected areas in NSW.

NSW Deputy Premier Andrew Stoner said time is running out for eligible organisations to apply for the program. He also stressed the importance of the program as a way of providing tangible support to mining communities.

“Mining is an important contributor to the NSW economy, but it puts extra pressure on everything from schools to hospitals, roads to recreational facilities and housing to childcare services,” Mr Stoner said.
