The $2.5 million facility will be staffed by 16 permanent fire-fighters, as well as on-call fire-fighters. The opening marks the first time Albion Park has been served by permanent fire-fighters.

The new station also houses two fire trucks and a specialist fire engine that was previously stationed at Shellharbour.

Minister for Police and Emergency Services Stuart Ayres said new station is major boost to residents of Albion Park and surrounding communities.

“With the population and significant infrastructure growth in the Illawarra area, and the risks – structural fires, bushfires, major road and rail transport routes – it’s important to have this additional fire-fighting capacity”, Mr Ayres said.

Mr Ayres also confirmed that 5 new fire-fighting jobs have been generated by the opening of the new fire station.

An official opening ceremony for the new facility will be held later in the year.
