The 101 texts on the list include 26 new texts and range from prose fiction, poetry, nonfiction, drama, film, media and digital texts across Years 11 and 12.

HSC students of 2019 will still have the opportunity to study a range of classic and contemporary texts such as Shakespeare, John Keats, Tim Winton and Noel Pearson.

The NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) reviewed the current HSC prescribed texts list to ensure students experience quality literature throughout the new syllabuses.

Education Minister Rob Stokes welcomed the release of the HSC English prescribed texts.

“Quality literature has always been a key component in the range of English courses from standard to extension and this will not change,” Mr Stokes said.

The government’s Stronger HSC Standards reforms include a commitment to redevelop HSC syllabuses with a greater balance between the breadth of content covered and the time for students to engage with a subject in more depth.

The new text list is available on the NESA website
