Can you code? The NSW Government wants to replace learner logbooks with an app and has launched the Learner Driver Logbook Innovation Challenge to individuals, start-up organisations and companies.

The Centre for Road Safety's Executive Director Bernard Carlon said there was a better way to record driving hours.

“Ask any learner or parent - it is time for a system which taps into the latest technology and moves into the digital age,” he said.

The learner app must digitally capture the information required in today’s paper-based logbooks while ensuring the safety of learner drivers. Importantly, the apps must not distract learner drivers or their supervisors and ensure learners abide by road rules relating to the use of mobile phones in vehicles.

Proposals are due by 5pm on 15 July.
