The Basement at Circular Quay, O'Malley's Hotel in Kings Cross and The Republic hotel in Pitt St, Sydney, have been given approval to admit patrons until 2am and serve drinks until 3.30am.

The other approved venues are:

  • Oxford Art Factory
  • Palace Hotel
  • ArtHouse Hotel
  • Mr B's Hotel
  • Stonewall Hotel
  • World Bar
  • Observer Hotel

Venues that offer genuine live entertainment, live performances or art and cultural events will be able to take part in a two-year trial of a later 2am lockout and 3:30am last drinks.

Minister for Racing Paul Toole said the strong industry response to the government’s relaxation of lockout laws for live entertainment venues is helping make Sydney’s nightlife more diverse and vibrant.

“The changes are part of our government’s commitment to create a more vibrant nightlife for Sydney while balancing the need for community safety,” Mr Toole said.

Liquor & Gaming NSW is considering applications from a further 16 venues.
