More shark surveillance at beaches
The towers will make it easier for surf lifesavers to spot sharks and people in distress while also monitoring beach conditions.
The NSW Government is providing more than $13,000 funding under the 2015-16 program for observation towers at Manly Beach, One Mile Beach at Port Stephens, Warilla Beach at Shellharbour and Lighthouse Beach, Ballina.
- Marine Rescue will receive $3000 for stabilising binoculars.
- Surf Life Saving NSW will receive more than $8000 for emergency evacuation alarms.
- Kiama Council will receive approximately $5000 for aerial surveillance.
The funding complements the recently announced $16 million Shark Management Strategy.
