New HSC course to nurture next generation of scientists
The new course will help talented science students make the link between school science and tertiary studies, preparing them for future roles as scientists and researchers.
The focus of the course is a scientific research project, which students may undertake in partnership with Australian and international researchers, universities and research institutions. Projects may also involve partnering with industry to pursue a research idea that has commercial application.
Upon completing the course, students will produce a scientific research report and undertake a computer-based examination.
HSC students will be able to study up to seven units of science from 2019, including Physics, Chemistry, Biology and the new Science Extension course.
Premier Gladys Berejiklian said the course would help provide the next generation of scientists with the knowledge and skills they need to lead modern scientific research.
“This new course will inspire and challenge some of our best students and prepare them for the many future jobs that we know will need high-level STEM expertise,” Ms Berejiklian said.
