Opal card users hit one million

Published 15th October, 2014 in Transport

One million customers are now using Opal cards as more than 500 buses go live with Opal in Sydney’s Inner West and South West.

Minister for Transport Gladys Berejiklian said this was a huge milestone and showed that the people of NSW were embracing Opal.

“With so many customers now using Opal, we’re finally seeing the end of Monday morning ticket queues at stations,” Ms Berejiklian said.

“Customers are also benefitting from Opal’s daily travel caps and weekly travel rewards, with 12 million free trips already taken across the transport network – many on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.”

Ms Berejiklian said that Opal was also helping to reduce road congestion as more people opted for public transport.
