The Premier's Innovation Initiative is asking non-government sectors to suggest new and creative ways to address open data, open ideas, congestion and social housing assets issues.

As part of the Initiative, the government wants ideas around what could be done with its potential data sets and also how to fast track the release of open data.

NSW Minister for Finance and Services Dominic Perrottet said the government was tapping into the crowd.

“The private sector is much better placed than we are to come up with these solutions,” Mr Perrottet said.

“Large amounts of data have already been made available online through our NSW Open Data Portal, however, we want to explore other uses for our data and what de-identified datasets can be fast-tracked for release to developers.”

The community is already seeing benefits from the government’s release of open data through apps like TripView and NSW Seniors Card.

“Currently our data is accessed more than 40 million times per month; we can expect this to increase as more industries start to harness and customise uses for de-identified government data,” Mr Perrottet said.

Expressions of interest for the Premier’s Innovation Initiative can be submitted on the NSW Government’s eTendering website.
