To mark World Environment Day, Sydney Olympic Park will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and energy costs with its new gas-fired cogeneration plant.

Sydney Olympic Park will use the cogeneration plant to reduce the Aquatic Centre’s greenhouse gas emissions by around 1,250 tonnes of CO2 per year.
The plant generates electricity and supplements existing electric-powered boilers, allowing reduced boiler use with the gas-fired plant shouldering the load. This results in saving at least $250,000 a year.
The project cost $1.8 million, which will pay itself off in 7 years through reduced energy bills (at current electricity prices).
