Trialling shark nets on the North Coast

The NSW Government wants to trial traditional mesh nets on the North Coast.

Following another shark attack off Ballina this week, the NSW Government is seeking Commonwealth approval for a six-month trial of shark nets to protect surfers and swimmers.

The trial complements other measures in the government's Shark Management Strategy to help reduce the risk of shark attacks, including:

The shark net trial's design and implementation will be guided by consultation with the local community.
