Sydneysiders will continue to receive world-class supply of water in their homes, with Sydney Water to use a $2.2 billion investment to upgrade infrastructure capital between now and 2020.

Minister for Water Niall Blair said this was a record investment into critical infrastructure.

“This infrastructure investment will see new filtration plants, pumps and water supply pipes built, and upgrades to wastewater networks and treatment plants – all of which will ensure world-class supply of water to people’s homes continues,” Mr Blair said.

Construction of a $27 million wastewater pumping station at Oran Park has begun, while other recent water infrastructure projects include:

  • construction of a new wastewater pumping station and 4.2km wastewater pipelines at Austral
  • two wastewater pumping stations and 12km of wastewater pipelines at Leppington.
