Published 3rd May, 2018 in Sport & Recreation

NSW's 134 Commonwealth Games athletes have brought home 24 gold, 18 silver and 12 bronze medals and helped Australia top the medal tally with 198 medals.

Minister for Sport Stuart Ayres welcomes home our Commonwealth Games athletes

Members of the 2018 Australian Commonwealth Games Team have been welcomed home at a special TeamAUS celebration in Sydney.

Six of the 24 gold medals from NSW were Commonwealth Games records.

Minister for Sport Stuart Ayres paid tribute to the outstanding achievements of athletes and their support staff.

“The people of New South Wales drew inspiration from the incredible performances of our athletes and today is all about saying thank you,” Mr Ayres said.

“I’m also proud that the NSW Government, through the NSW Institute of Sport, provided the support our athletes needed to succeed on the world stage and importantly we also recognise the coaches and staff who were with them every step of the way.”
