Work begins on Newcastle light rail project
The Newcastle-based team will conduct technical studies, field investigations and will consult with the community to assess the positive and negative impact of building and operating the light rail.
The environmental assessment study will include heritage, visual and urban design, noise and vibration, social impacts, air quality and traffic, and access. The aim will be to minimise impact on the community and the environment.
Minister for Transport and Minister for the Hunter Gladys Berejiklian described the milestone as an important stage in the revitalisation of Newcastle.
“Newcastle light rail will provide a service through the CBD, connecting the new transport interchange at Wickham with the beach”, Minister Berejiklian said.
“Together, these projects represent a significant investment in the Hunter region demonstrating this Government’s recognition of the important role the region has to play in the economic future of NSW.”
