Minister for Transport Gladys Berejiklian said Sydney train customers had been patiently hoping for an upgrade to Wynyard Station, and that the Government were committed to delivering the much-needed improvements.

“Everyone knows that Wynyard Station is a relic of the past, and frankly it is time to upgrade one of Sydney’s busiest transport hubs and finally give customers what they deserve”, Ms Berejiklian said.

The planned work will include an upgrade to the CBD station’s concourse and platforms, with a less cluttered concourse and wider ticket gate area making it easier for customers to enter, exit and move around the station. There is also new lighting, new tiling, an overhaul of the retail outlets, a fresh coat of paint and new signage to help customers move around the station easier.

Customers will see some temporarily reduced access in the station when work is carried out, but inconvenience will be minimised and work will take place outside peak hours wherever possible.

The new Wynyard Station and Wynyard Walk will be a gateway to Barangaroo and will play a key part in the movements of thousands more of customers every peak period.

The planning approval process will take place in coming months.
