The major upgrade will guarantee the safety of Tweed Shire residents and property downstream of the dam in the event of an extreme flood.
NSW Minister for Natural Resources, Lands and Water Kevin Humphries said the major upgrade has increased the dam’s spillway capacity to ensure that it can safely pass extreme flood events.
“The upgrade to this dam now means Clarrie Hall Dam can pass floods many times greater than the largest flood on record,” Mr Humphries said.
Mr Humphries described the project as a great example of the NSW Government’s commitment to improving vital water infrastructure in regional communities. He also revealed a further $300 million investment in similar water infrastructure upgrade projects across the State.
