Awards for Excellence in Restaurants & Catering announced

George Souris congratulated the 60 winning restaurants and caterers, as the State’s industry gathered for the 2013 Savour Australia™ Restaurant & Catering HOSTPLUS Awards for Excellence.

The Premier, Barry O'Farrell, who also attended the awards, praised the breadth of dining and hospitality experiences available in Sydney and the regions, which he said was reflected in the award categories, including Sydney Restaurant of the Year, Blue Mountains/Central West Restaurant of the Year and Caterer of the Year.

Restaurants bringing the State’s vast range of international cuisines such as Asian, Chinese, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Indian, Turkish and Vietnamese were also honoured.

"Food and wine forms a large part of a visitor’s experience and we are very fortunate that Sydney and Surrounds boasts some of the best restaurants and chefs in Australia, such as the Sydney Restaurant of the Year winner – Tetsuya's", Mr Souris said.

"I was also particularly delighted to present the Best Tourism Restaurant Award to Sydney Tower Buffet, which offers our visitors the opportunity to have a great dining experience while providing uninterrupted revolving views of the city.

"For NSW tourism, food and wine experiences are essential and create more than 39,000 direct tourism jobs in the dining and catering sector alone.

"The Savour Australia™ Restaurant & Catering HOSTPLUS Awards for Excellence provide an important opportunity to recognise the achievements of the restaurant and catering sector and those who strive for distinction in their field", Mr Souris said.

The Awards are being held across Australia over nine events, including both regional and metropolitan regions, as well as the National awards.
