Blacktown Hospital redevelopment enters its second stage

Published: 11 April 2017
Construction has started on the new acute services building at Blacktown Hospital.

The acute services building is part of Stage 2 of the $700 million Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospitals Expansion Project.

A new emergency department, psychiatric emergency care unit and intensive care unit will be part of the new building.

The new building will also include:

  • eight new operating theatres and space for future expansion
  • new purpose-built wards for expanded birthing, maternity, women’s health, and newborn care
  • a new paediatric service with dedicated emergency, day stay, clinics and a ward with carer zones so a parent or carer can comfortably stay overnight.

Staff and patients helped co-design the new building, to create the best possible environment for recovery.

The second stage of the project will also see the construction of a multi-storey car park with over 400 additional spaces.

Health Minister Brad Hazzard said Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospitals would have the best of the best.

“The best technology and the best clinical services will give patients the best chance to get back on their feet,” Mr Hazzard said.

The acute services building is expected to be completed by 2019.
