Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events, and Minister for Sport Stuart Ayres announced the match had been secured by Destination NSW in partnership with ANZ Stadium,“Chelsea FC v Sydney FC will be a must see for all football and sporting fans” Mr Ayres said.
It's been more than forty years since Chelsea played on Australian shores and for many it will be the first time to see modern Chelsea in action. Players Diego Costa, Cesc Fabregas, Oscar and Eden Hazard will headline the side captained by John Terry.
Chelsea FC is one of the most popular clubs in the English Premier League and Sydney can expect football fans from interstate and overseas to make the trip to the match.
In the week and a half leading up to the Chelsea FC v Sydney FC match, NSW will also see several major sporting events happen in Sydney. The Waratahs will play the Crusaders in the Super Rugby Final re–match on Saturday 23 May, the 2015 NRL State of Origin series kicks off on Wednesday 27 May and Tottenham Hotspur takes on Sydney FC on Saturday 30 May.
