“Cate Blanchett is one of Australia’s finest actors. It’s pleasing to see that she has been recognised yet again internationally for her exceptional performance in another great role,” Mr Souris said.
“I’m sure the Golden Globe will be one of many awards Cate will receive for her starring role in Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine. On Friday [January 10] she also won the Best Actress award at the 2014 AACTA International Awards.
“I trust that Cate will also be nominated for an Oscar for her role in Blue Jasmine on January 16.”
Mr Souris said Cate Blanchett also deserves praise for her exceptional record of support for the arts in NSW through the Sydney Theatre Company.
“Cate is a great inspiration for the arts in NSW. She is a regular at the Helpmann and AACTA Awards, and the Sydney Film Festival, and is much loved and always accessible for all,” Mr Souris said.
“Sydneysiders have for some time been the beneficiaries of Cate’s work at the Sydney Theatre Company, both by seeing her perform regularly on stage, and also through her role as one of the company’s co-artistic directors, with Andrew Upton, for five years.
The Government of NSW and indeed all the people will undoubtedly wish to express their pride and joy at Cate’s wonderful achievement”.
