COVID-19 heat maps protecting NSW communities
In an Australian first, COVID-19 (coronavirus) heat maps reveal how many people have recovered from the virus, estimated number of active cases, and number of tests completed.
The NSW Government's heat map of COVID-19 cases identifies information by postcodes showing the number of active cases, testing rates and number of recovered cases in each local community.
NSW has one of the highest COVID-19 testing rates in the world, with over 200,000 people already tested, and capacity to test another 110,000.
Premier Gladys Berejiklian said the heat maps provide critical information on COVID-19 testing and recovery rates.
“This new way of showing NSW Health data will help communities understand the numbers of people being tested, and encourage more people with symptoms to come forward for testing when they see the impact COVID-19 is having on their local area,” Ms Berejiklian said.
“It also provides encouraging data showing how people are bouncing back from the virus.”
The heat maps show the positive effects of stopping the spread of COVID-19.
In Liverpool, less than 1000 tests were conducted a month ago where the heat maps reveal over 2600 tests have been made in recent weeks.
In regional NSW, Orange reached 10 confirmed COVID-19 cases and conducted over 1000 tests which have slowed the increase of cases.
Minister for Customer Service Victor Dominello said the heat maps build on the transparency of existing data to help keep NSW safe.
“At this point in time, it shows the community is rising to the challenge and doing the right thing by our state,” Mr Dominello said.
