Driver testing to start again in NSW
Driver testing in NSW will recommence on Wednesday 1 July 2020 after being closed for three months due to COVID-19.
All customers will be able to book a driver test online, via phone (13 77 88) or in-person at a Service NSW Centre.
Safety measures will be in place during tests to help stop the spread of COVID-19. This includes disposable seat covers, hand sanitiser and gloves.
Customers will also need to sign a statutory declaration confirming they are well enough to take their test.
There are an estimated 4800 driver tests performed every week in NSW. Service NSW will increase capacity to approximately 6500 tests each week to address the backlog of tests.
An additional 50 drivers have also been hired to increase the number of tests available to customers.
Minister for Transport and Roads Andrew Constance said drivers and riders who want to progress from P1 to P2 and then on to an unrestricted licence can now do so online.
“Drivers now have a simpler, faster and more COVID-safe way of moving from one licence level to the next,” Mr Constance said.
“Getting your licence for the first time is a major milestone for a young person, while many others rely on their licence for employment or mobility.”
