First Sydney Metro train arrives
The six carriages of the first metro train have arrived at the Sydney Metro Trains Facility at Rouse Hill.
The French-designed Sydney Metro train is now undergoing final fitout and will be prepared for testing over the coming months.
Key design features of the train include:
- air conditioning
- cushioned seating
- wide aisles
- large windows
- level access between the platform and train
- three doors per carriage for quick boarding and disembarking.
From 2019, people living in Sydney’s North West will catch a metro train every four minutes in each direction. Services will extend into the CBD by 2024.
The $8.3 billion Sydney Metro Northwest project is Stage 1 of Sydney Metro, which will be the first fully automated metro rail system in Australia.
Sydney Metro Northwest includes eight new metro stations, five existing stations upgraded to metro standards and 4000 new commuter car parking spaces.
